Born in Havana, Cuba, Lester began his musical studies at the Adolfo Guzmán School of Music and the Amadeo Roldán Conservatory. After moving to Mexico in 1994, he completed a bachelor’s degree at the Escuela Nacional de Música at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). Awarded a scholarship from FONCA, Lester earned a master’s degree at Koninklijk Conservatorium. Lester is a founding member of the ensemble Modelo 62 and has also been invited to collaborate with ASKO Ensemble, Percussion Group The Hague, Amsterdam Percussion Group, Anumadutchi, Soil, Camerata de las Américas and Tambuco. He has performed at numerous festivals including Bienale di Venezia, Steve Reich Festival, Festival Internacional Cervantino and Caribe Internacional. An active recording artist, Lester’s projects include México Barroco Vol. VII, Boleros, and two operas by contemporary Mexican composers. |
